The Theater at Virgin Hotels

Las Vegas, Nevada

A Brief History of the Theater

On March 10, 1995, the Hard Rock Hotel opened its doors for the first time, debuting a new concert venue called The Joint. This space could seat up to 2,000 people in a way that they could enjoy a unique up-close view of major performers who might otherwise only perform at stadium shows.

The opening night lineup was stacked with big names, and the concert was even broadcast on MTV the following evening. Its monumental success kicked off decades of legendary performances on that stage. Other Las Vegas resorts took note and soon opened similar venues, like the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay, The Colosseum at Caesars Palace, and the Pearl Theater at Palms.

The Joint was a concert venue for major musical acts, but over the years, the event space hosted other entertainment events as well. In June 1997, The Joint held the world premiere of the action film ‘Con Air,’ treating attendees to a star-studded screening. Years later, in November 2003, the venue hosted a fundraising event centered around a screening of The Big Empty. This was part of an effort by Hard Rock Hotel & Casino to keep pace with the nearby Palms resort, which had been holding Hollywood film and TV premieres to great success.

In March 2018, ownership of the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas changed hands, with plans to renovate and rebrand it under the Virgin Hotels name. In June 2021, Christina Aguilera became the first person to perform at the new theater as part of the celebrations for the official grand opening of the resort.
