Bakkt Theater At Planet Hollywood

Las Vegas, Nevada

A Brief History of Bakkt Theater

The venue, now known as Bakkt Theater, has undergone several name changes over the decades, adapting to reflect both ownership and marketing partnerships. Originally built in the 1970s as part of the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas, the space was conceived as a performing arts center to replace an underutilized golf course.

Construction on the ambitious project began in 1969, with initial designs positioning the performance hall as a separate building from the hotel. In 1972, the Aladdin was sold to new owners – Sam Diamond, Peter Wevve, Sorkis Wevve, and Richard Daly, who pushed forward with the plans.

The theater finally opened on July 2, 1976, coinciding with America’s bicentennial weekend celebrations. Fittingly, Neil Diamond served as the venue’s first headliner, performing a series of five sold-out shows reportedly netting him $750,000. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, the auditorium became a go-to stage for many top rock and roll acts performing in Las Vegas.

After operating for decades as the Aladdin Theater, the venue was renamed the Zappos Theater in February 2018 under a five-year marketing partnership with online shoe retailer Zappos. Then, in March 2023, it transitioned to its current name – the Bakkt Theater – reflecting a new branding deal. While the name has changed, the lively entertainment legacy continues at this storied Las Vegas concert hall.
