Henderson Silver Knights

Las Vegas, Nevada

This franchise started as the Tidewater/Virginia Wings in 1971. At the time, they were based in Norfolk, Virginia, in the greater Hampton Roads area. In 1975, the team moved camp to Glens Fall, New York, after a 2-year suspension and rebranded themselves as the Adirondack Red Wings. In 1999, the team’s operations were suspended, and the franchise was inactive till 2002, when the owners of NBA’s San Antonio Spurs purchased it and renamed it San Antonio Rampage. This was followed by an 18-year stint in San Antonio.

In February 2020, the Vegas Golden Knights bought the franchise from San Antonio Spurs with the intention of relocating the team to Las Vegas, Nevada. When this was approved, the Orleans Arena in Paradise was designated as a temporary venue for the Silver Knights to play their home games while their 6k-seating capacity arena was under construction in Henderson.

In May, the Vegas Golden Knights announced that the team would be named the Henderson Silver Knights. In August, Manny Viveiros became the team’s first head coach.

The Silver Knights played their inaugural season in 2020-2021 out of the Orleans Arena in the Las Vegas suburb of Paradise, Nevada. It was an impressive first season for the Silver Knights as they compiled a record of 25 wins and 13 losses in 39 games, won the Pacific Division title, and reached the Western Conference Finals. This was largely due to the contribution of their star players – Reid Duke and Pavel Dorofeyev.

The Silver Knights have quickly established themselves as one of the AHL’s top teams, developing players for the Golden Knights while providing competitive and entertaining hockey for fans in the Las Vegas Valley.
