When We Were Young

Las Vegas, Nevada

A Brief History of the Festival

The When We Were Young festival has rapidly become a must-attend event for fans of emo, pop-punk, and rock music. It all began in 2017 with a modest two-day gathering at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California, but it wasn’t long before the festival’s popularity quickly skyrocketed.

In 2022, the organizers made a bold decision to relocate the festival to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds in Winchester, Nevada. Initially, it was announced as a one-day event on October 22, 2022, with My Chemical Romance and Paramore headlining the festival, causing tickets to sell at an astonishing pace. This overwhelming demand led to the addition of two more dates on October 23 and 29. However, the journey wasn’t without its challenges, as the first day was canceled due to unforeseen weather conditions, and the band Car Seat Headrest had to pull out due to health issues.

Undeterred by these setbacks, the organizers announced the return of the festival for 2023, with Blink-182 and Green Day as headliners. This time, the event was expanded to a two-day weekend format, a structure that the organizers intend to use for the 2024 edition. The anticipation continued to build as a leaked lineup fueled speculation among fans.

On November 13, 2023, all artists officially announced the lineup for the 2024 festival, with Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance set to headline the event. In a unique twist, nearly all of the performing bands are scheduled to play sets that consist of one of their albums played in its entirety, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees. This innovative approach has further solidified When We Were Young as a must-attend event, catering to the nostalgia and passion of fans who grew up with these iconic bands.
