Mad Apple

By Cirque Du Soleil Las Vegas

The New York-New York Hotel and Casino, located on the famous Las Vegas Strip, is designed to recreate the essence of New York City with its architecture and landmarks. The property features several downscaled replicas of iconic NYC structures, including a 150-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty and a 47-story hotel tower modeled after the Empire State Building.

At 529 feet tall, New York-New York’s hotel tower represented the tallest building in Nevada after its opening in 1997 until the completion of the Wynn Las Vegas resort in 2005. The design is intended to evoke the New York City skyline, with the hotel tower fashioned to resemble skyscrapers like the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings.

In addition to gambling, the New York-New York offers other amenities modeled after New York City landmarks. Guests can ride the Big Apple Coaster, which zooms around the resort’s Manhattan skyline. There is also a 150-foot replica of the Brooklyn Bridge. Inside, the casino area spans around 50,000 square feet for gaming. The resort contains over 2,000 hotel rooms for guests.

The New York-New York Hotel and Casino was built through a joint venture between MGM Resorts International and Primadonna Resorts at a cost of $460 million. Construction started in March 1995 and opened in January 1997. In 1999, MGM bought out Primadonna’s ownership stake and became the sole operator.

Over the years, the New York-New York Hotel and Casino has hosted many famous entertainers and shows. Stand-up comedian Rita Rudner performed at the resort from 2001 to 2006. The adult-themed circus show Zumanity ran from 2003 to 2020. The addition of Hershey’s Chocolate World in 2014 was part of an extensive property renovation.
